Chosun Dynasty Persisting in Confucian govenment system was revealed its own contradisions later and westen civilization of the Powers after Kanghwa do treaty added much. confusions in it.
In those days enlightening movement by the leaders occured widely and especially in woman world had be been faithful to feudalistic system new movement of the change broke out.
Woman position in chosun period was of little importance except moth.er´s authority Because that society was male centered, woman activities limited. There fore many requlations in woman name wedding, married Iife,beginning with birth must followed. But though it: was informal, woman could get educations at home. That had been educated under unequal environment,but the contents had been various for playing play much role for one. Through these education woman enlightening thought could be basis to form.
Catholic thoughts brought many awakenings to suppressed woman at that time. Particularly Catholic idea of the future life (the life after death) thought then male female equality idea. Woman could attend Mass with man, woman believers engaged in mission work.Thease happenings were unimaginable revolutionary matters in C hosunsociety. Especially woman´s positive religious life told us that woman enlight:enirig thought had been sprouted.
In Donghak theory, male female equal ideas are much involved in general specially insisting on coupleequality and estimating woman´s ability highly.
Innechon idea gave them lots of hopes but woman activities by Dong hak thought were not remarkable. The time that woman enlightening thought had made public in Korea was after the introduction of Protestantism. Early woman missionaries including Mrs. Scranton had founded girlschools for the purpose of mission. Through the education of mission school young women in traditional society had known to humanism, that is, malefemale equality. Accordingly korean woman´s modernitation began to be concrete.
And after. kabsinjongbyon the enlightening thinkers like Park younghyo, You giljun claimed the woman enlightening thought.Both thinkers set up the direction of woman position progress,but could not practice it.
That played educational whole woman and claimed woman enlightening thought concretely was D ongnipsinmun. Through the editorial of this newspaper it asserted neccesity of the woman education and woman right and maintained the improvement of woman consciousness for the national development .
We can think that by Catholic and D ong hak woman enlightening though was budded out, by the enlightening thinkers and Protestantism It was claim,and by article of Dongnipsinmun. it was vealized.
Conclusively woman enlightening thought had taken a share to national power to cover activity national crisis at that time, further it had become the power to participate in struggle for antiJapanese.
